* 1. What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ)?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a self-defense martial art and combat sport based on grappling, ground fighting, and submission holds. BJJ focuses on taking one’s opponent down to the ground, gaining a dominant position, and using various techniques to control and/or submit their opponent using joint locks or chokes.

Our striking classes consist of multiple disciplines such as boxing, Dutch Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and traditional martial arts.

We currently offer a Youth Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class for ages 8-13. Our goal is to add more Youth classes as our programs grow.

* 4. What equipment will I need?

For Gi Jiu Jitsu classes, you’ll need a Jiu Jitsu Gi (uniform), Jiu Jitsu belt, and a rash guard or tight-fitting shirt. Most people wear shorts, spandex, or leggings under their Gi pants. For No Gi Jiu Jitsu, you’ll need a rash guard or tight-fitting shirt, grappling/board shorts/spandex shorts, or leggings/spats. Clothing with pockets or outside drawstrings are not allowed. Tank tops or only wearing a sports bra as a top is not allowed. A mouthpiece is recommended.

For kickboxing classes, you’ll need boxing gloves, shin pads, and a mouthpiece. 180” handwraps are recommended. Anyone under the age of 18 years old is also required to wear headgear during sparring. A mouthpiece is required for anyone sparring.

It is highly recommended that male participants wear groin protection for both striking and grappling.
